Mercedes Benz To Go All Electric By 2030

German luxury car giant Mercedes Benz is all set to go electric by the end of the decade. The company has decided to introduce three new EV platforms and it plans to sell only electric vehicles in the countries where market conditions allow. As part of this plan, the company will have battery electric vehicles in all the segments it serves by next year.

Mercedes will invest around 40 billion euros in electric vehicles between 2022 and 2030. Moreover, the carmaker targets to sell 50% hybrid and electric vehicles by 2025. To maintain profitability, they have decided to increase the sale of Maybach and AMG line-ups.

Mercedes Benz has also teased a new Vision EQXX concept which will probably reveal in 2022. It is promised to offer a range of over 1,000 Km and 104KWh battery back. The brand’s Formula 1 High-Performance PowerTrain division is involved in the development of this model. The Automakers have confirmed that this model will serve as a guide in developing future electric vehicles.

Mercedes Benz plans to introduce new-age batteries and to set up eight Gigafactories for this purpose with a total production capacity of more than 200 Gigawatt hours. It will be an addition to the existing plans for nine battery manufacturing units. Mercedes’s next-generation batteries will be highly standardized and suitable for 90% of all Mercedes Benz cars and vans. These batteries may use silicon-carbon anode technology to provide unparalleled range and even shorter charging times.

As of now, Mercedes Benz has not revealed any plans for the Indian market. Since it is already confirmed that plans to go all-electric are possible only where conditions allow, India has to continue with petrol and diesel models for a little while longer.
