The central government on December 22, 2021, introduced the new Bharat Series or BH registration mark for new vehicles across the country. The ministry of road transport and highways introduced a new registration for new vehicles under the name BH to facilitate seamless transfer of vehicles on August 28, 2021.
The BH series registration will be available on a voluntary basis to Defence personnel, employees of central government, state government, central or state public sector undertaking and private sector companies who have offices in four or more states or union territory.
The newly introduced feature facilitate the free movement of personal vehicles across the state or union territory of India upon relocation. Meanwhile, the central government will levy motor vehicle tax for two years or in multiple of two. After the fourteenth year, the tax will be levied annually to half of the amount charged earlier. The format of BH-series registration mark will be YY BH #### XX. YY denotes the year of first registration, BH is code for Bharat Series, #### is the randomised four digit number and XX are two alphabets.
Karnataka has already started issuing the new BH series registration mark for a group of personal vehicles owned by central government employees. Maharashtra has also commenced the BH series registration in October 2021.
